Psalm 139
1 O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
2 You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
3 You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.
5 You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.
A quote I found on line about psalm 139:1-6 said
Wherever we are, we are under the eye and hand of God. We cannot by searching find how God searches us out; nor do we know how we are known. Such thoughts should restrain us from sin.
Starting with verse one we are reminded that the lord searches the mind and the heart of an individual.God also relays that fact that he knows david by name:
Jeremiah 17:10 says 10 I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind Even to give every man according to his ways According to the fruit of his doings.
Revelation 2:23 say’s and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And will give to each one of you according to your works.
Question: When can you remember a time when GO D searched you out?
Verse 2 of psalm 139:says You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. Genesis 6:5
said The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. As a result of this worlds thought life and motives GOD had no choice but to detroy the earth and save only eight souls. Genesis 7:23 says Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive.
1 chronicles 28:9 said for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. Proverbs 15:26
says The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but those of the pure are pleasing to him. Ecclesiastes 10:20
says Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say. Matthew 15:19
says For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Romans 2:15
said since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them. Ephesians 2:3
All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.
At the end of this verse of Ephesians 2:3 it says we were objects of wrath. I am sure a lot of us in hear are not objects of wrath or maybe you are? But one thing we know for sure is that he see’s us.
And as we continue on to verse three of psalm 139 it says you comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. From a knowledge of sin perspective in my life I am so thankful that he knew and was acquainted with all my ways. For some people for GOD to know what you are all about and you get caught or become exposed it’s a negative thing. Getting caught by GOD doesn’t seem pleasant at first but once you have been trained by his goodness you begin to understand his greater good for our lives. David along with his psalms knew first hand what it was like to get caught.
